Riverside Glen is owned by a partnership of The
Homewood Corporation of Guelph and the Ron Schlegel family of Kitchener.
|
 |
Riverside Glen is designed to function as a village, As
with most villages, Riverside Glen has a Main Street, a Village Square,
and a variety of activities for residents of the Village. |
 |
Riverside Glen is built on 20 acres of attractively
landscaped grounds bounded to the east by the gently flowing Speed River.
Residents can sit on their own patio, enjoy safe walks along walkways that
wind through the grounds, enjoy gardening, or sit in the outside gazebo.
There are also several therapeutic courtyards for residents to enjoy. |
 |
Complete LTC and retirement living is provided on each
floor - avoiding the use of stairs and elevators which inevitably
discourage residents' freedom of movement and social interaction. Each
area of the community has direct access to the outdoors. |
 |
Riverside Glen has developed an expertise in caring for
mild to more advanced stages of confusion in seniors. The Facility offers
a unique Alzheimers/Dementia care continuum. The three steps in the
continuum are the Supportive Care Floor in the Retirement Home Area for
early stages, the Active Dementia Home Area in the LTC for middle stages
and the advanced Dementia Care Home Area for later stages. Specialized
programs are offered including a Dementia Care Nurse with specialized
expertise. These units also allow residents to move safely within the
building and in secure outdoor patios and courtyards. |

seniors apartments to Retirement Home suites to Assisted and Supportive
Care options within the Retirement home for those who need additional
attention to, ultimately, a Ministry of Health licensed LTC facility for
those requiring more care. This continuum of care makes it possible for
our residents to stay in their community even if their health care
requirements change. |
 |
The Depression Management Program involves staff
education/training in an effort to prevent depression and, when present,
to identify, assess and treat through a specialized treatment plan. The
program is coordinated by the Special Needs Nurse on site. |
 |
The Functional Abilities Program assesses the
resident's level of biomechanical and psychomotor functioning (gait,
balance, range of motion, muscle strength/power, fine and gross motor
co-ordination); identifies functional deficits, develops a plan of
treatment and reassesses the resident for restorative progress. This
program is a unique partnership with the University of Waterloo and its
expertise in kinesiology and neuropsychology. |
 |
A comprehensive Horticulture Therapy Program is offered
at the facility which takes a holistic therapy approach (including other
therapies such as aroma, massage, music and taste). |
